"Chris Glover" @ Sin-e, NYC | Pics

Chris Glover @ Sin-e

Chris Glover” (in quotes per his request) is mysterious. Seemingly out of nowhere, the guy is signed to Interscope Records. The only Internet proof of his existence before now is a guest spot on a Girl Talk album that came out last year. After discovering him via a record company related e-mail last week, I went to see him Tuesday night, March 15th, 2005, at Sin-e in NYC.

His live show was a lot rawer than the well produced (potential radio) tracks you can hear on his player. I have trouble believing his band members have known him very long. Perhaps they were hired by Interscope to record the album and play some shows. Feel free to comment if you know more about it.

He’s full of wise cracks and strange stories that he tells in this comedic-white-rapper sort of under-his-breath way. The title of his forthcoming album, “Hell isn’t even that Funny is his reaction to people saying “that’s funny as hell.” Hell’s not funny he explained, though pointing out he doesn’t believe in Heaven or Hell.

If you like his songs, you shouldn’t be disappointed with the live show (which you have the chance to catch the next two Tuesday nights at Sin-E). His voice sounds so much like the songs, I wondered if he was lip syncing for a second. Overall enjoyable, but musically, no comparison to a band like Doves who I ran to catch right after seeing Chris.
