Christmas/Hanukkah NYC show roundup: Mariah, Ronnie Spector, Darlene Love, Matishayu, more

Holiday season will be here before you know it, and there are already a ton of Christmas/Hanukkah-themed NYC concerts announced for this year. Here’s a roundup of some musical ways New Yorkers can get in the holiday spirit:

Mariah Carey, who, thanks to “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” is now kind of inseparable from the holiday-music conversation, does her usual run of Christmas shows at the Beacon Theatre on December 5, 7, 8, 13 & 14. You can get tickets for those shows starting on Saturday (10/22) at 10 AM.

UPDATE: Mariah expanded the run to nine nights. Tickets are on sale (same link).

As we’ve already mentioned, camp king John Waters will be doing his recurring Christmas show at City Winery this year. That goes down on the early side — November 27 to be exact, before he takes that particular show on the road. Tickets are on sale now.

Also at City Winery, Ronnie Spector is doing her annual Christmas shows on December 20-21. Tickets for those shows are on sale now.

Fellow A Christmas Gift to You from Phil Spector singer Darlene Love is doing her annual Christmas shows at B.B. King Blues Club. Those go down on December 17, 23 and 26 as well as January 6, and tickets are on sale now.

The first night of Hanukkah is on Christmas Eve this year, which means this year’s Hanukkah shows are opening on days you might actually have off from work! One example is Matisyahu. who’s doing his annual “Fesitval of Light” shows at City Winery from December 22-24. Tickets for those are on sale now.

City Winery is also doing their annual Christmas for Jews shows, which this yearof course falls on Hanukkah, and doubles as a Hanukkah night 2 celebration. That’s on December 25 (duh) and tickets are on sale now.

If you prefer to ring in the festival of lights with some more skin showing, there’s The Schlep Sisters‘ 10th annual Menorah Horah burlesque show at Highline Ballroom on December 24. Tickets are on sale now.

Over at the Bell House there are a few good options. The annual Yule Ball with Harry and the Potters (and various associates) goes down on December 15 (tickets). Then on December 29, Dar Williams does her “Christians, Pagans & Other Hipsters” show with various guests TBA. Tickets for that are on sale now.

Union Hall is hosting their “XMas Pop Sing Along” again this year, and tickets for that are on sale now.

The Wellmont Theater hosts a special Charlie Brown Christmas event on December 22. Tickets for that are on LiveNation and Music Geeks presale now, and go on sale to the general public Friday (10/21) at 10 AM.

The NYC Gay Men’s Chorus presents “XMas and Chill” at Town Hall on December 18. Tickets are o nsale.

Downtown drag legend Murray Hill will again be doing his “A Very Murray Christmas” show at Joes Pub on November 25. That evening has two shows, one at 7:00 and one at 9:30, and tickets are on sale now.

Fellow Joe’s Pub regular Justin Vivian Bond has a holiday residency called “The Bipolar Express.” That residence spans December 12-23 at the same venue. Tickets are on sale now.

Meanwhile there’s also a bunch of stuff that we’ve already mentioned. There’s Cyndi Lauper‘s holiday show at The Beacon Theatre on December 3. Tickets go on sale October 28 at 10 AM with a few presales starting October 25 at 10 AM. Lineup TBA announced! (it’s full of fun guests).

Sharon Jones has her “Home For the Holidays” shows coming up at King’s Theatre on December 9 (Tickets) and at NJ’s Loews Jersey City Theater (tickets).
UPDATE: RIP, Sharon Jones

Kacey Musgraves has her full-on Christmas tour coming up, which includes that stop in NYC at Town Hall on December 8 (tickets). She also has her Christmas album A Very Kacey Christmas on the way.

That’s one of a a few new Christmas albums we recently mentioned, and since we last spoke, another cool one was announced. David Bazan releases Dark Sacred Night is out on November 11 via Suicide Squeeze. That record features a bunch of Christmas singles that David had released via 7″ on that label over the years. Those are all long out-of-print, and now they’re collected in one place for the first time. He’s shared a cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Happy XMas (War is Over),” which you can listen to below. Pre-order the album here.
