Claire Cronin made an LP w/ Deerhoof’s John Dieterich, touring (dates, video)
Musician/poet Claire Cronin recently released her proper debut album, Came Down A Storm (via Ba Da Bing), which she recorded as a collaboration with Deerhoof guitarist John Dieterich. It was mixed and features contributions by 31 Knots’ Jay Pellici (who’s also worked with Deerhoof), and it also includes strings by Ezra Buchla (Gowns, The Mae Shi) and Heather Trost (A Hawk and a Hacksaw), and drums by Chris Vatalaro (who also played on the Brian Eno & Karl Hyde album, among other things). It’s somber, minimal folk and Claire has the perfect voice for this kind of stuff. If you dig ’60s cult folk or mid-2000s New Weird America, you’re probably gonna find that this hits close to home. Stream the whole new album below, and check out the new video for “The Unnatural” (illustrated by Marcos Sanchez, who also did the album artwork), which premieres in this post. If you like what you hear, you can pick up the album here.
Claire is supporting the album on a tour, which begins in Indianapolis this Saturday (5/21) with Palehound. The tour hits NYC on June 1 at Union Pool with Katie Von Schleicher and headliner Cassandra Jenkins. Tickets for that show are on sale now. All dates are listed below.
