Cleveland's Herzog releasing new album (stream a track), playing NYC this weekend and other dates

by Bill Pearis

Herzog

Indie rock, in the trad ’90s sense, has probably been fully explored by this point but something about it never puts it completely out of style. Sometimes a band comes along that does it so well, with great songs and enthusiasm, it feels like 1993 all over again. Cleveland quartet Herzog will drop their new album, Boys, on May 20 and it’s just ridiculously crammed with memorable songs, big hooks, and the impression that the band had the best time making it. Fill in your own Clinton-era college radio comparison — they are also maybe the Midwest’s answer to Seattle’s BOAT — but this record is good in any year. You can pre-order the album now and if you’d like to hear some of it, we’ve got the premiere of “Theme for Boys” which you can stream below.

Herzog are also playing a few East Coast shows this week, including NYC at Bushwick’s Cobra Club on Saturday (5/3) with Shale Satans. The band will then be back again next month, playing Glasslands on June 4 and June 5 at Bowery Electric. No word on advance tickets for either of those June shows just yet.

All dates are listed, along with the track stream, album art and tracklist, below….
