Cold Beat share "Cracks" video; NYC shows are this weekend

Cold Beat Cracks

Cold Beat have just released the video for “Cracks,” arguably the highlight of their terrific new album Into the Air. Much like the song itself, it could’ve been from the early ’80s, using vector graphics (think Tempest or TRON) and old-school video effects. Singer/bassist Hannah Lew directed the video and tells us a little about it:

I tried to portray the feelings of constraint and freedom described in the song. Cracks is largely a song about tearing down walls that I had built up around myself and allowing myself to move on past a period of my life where I was mostly consumed with grief and sadness. It’s a song about breaking out of the prison of identity and allowing ourselves to move on. I wasted a lot of time feeling hurt in life, but life is short and I think it’s healthy to build walls of protection when you need to, but be willing to destroy them when they’re not serving you anymore. It’s often difficult to convey the meaning of a song visually, but I was fortunate enough to have Madeline Allard and Japhy Riddle lend their talents to the production of this video, which helped immensely!

The “Cracks” video premieres in this post and you can watch it below.

As mentioned, Cold Beat are in NYC this weekend for four shows:  Friday (9/18) at Union Pool with Decorum and Big Eyes (tickets), Saturday (9/19) at Shea Stadium with Home Blitz, MPHO, and OCDPP (tickets), a free in-store at Other Music on Sunday (9/20, 7 PM), followed by a show later that same night at Silent Barn with Heaven’s Gate and Honey ($8 at the door). They were great when they played here in May. Go see ’em.
