Common Holly is the musical moniker of Montreal’s Brigitte Naggar. She self-released her debut album Playing House last year, but since pulled the album after signing to Solitaire Recordings, who will re-release it this Friday (10/27). You can stream the whole thing at CBC Music until it’s out, and four of the nine songs are also streaming below. Brigitte makes personal, delicate songs, mostly based around a clean electric guitar or an acoustic guitar, except for “Lullaby,” which features the Polaris Prize-nominated Jean-Michel Blais on piano. Her songs fall somewhere between folk and jazz-pop, and Brigitte’s truly wonderful voice is what really separates her from the pack of singer/songwriters doing a similar type of thing.

Common Holly began a solo tour this week, opening the two Canadian dates on Julien Baker’s tour. In November, she opens part of The Hotelier‘s tour, then part of New Zealand artist Fazerdaze‘s tour.

The run with The Hotelier includes the NYC show on November 2 at Brooklyn Bazaar, which also has Oso Oso and Alex Napping on the bill (tickets). She also opens Fazerdaze’s NYC show, which happens on November 8 at Mercury Lounge (tickets).

Right before the Brooklyn show with The Hotelier, Common Holly will be in NYC to record two sessions: one on Halloween with Stereogum (who just named her one of the 40 best new bands of 2017) and one on November 1 with Popdust.

Both Common Holly and Jean-Michel Blais also play M for Montreal this year. All Common Holly dates are listed below.
