Confidence Man tell us about what they've been listening to ahead of tour

Australian dancerock duo Confidence Man released one of 2018’s most purely fun albums and have won festival crowds over with their energetic live shows. If you haven’t checked out their album, Confident Music for Confident People, give it a spin below.

As for playing live, Janet Planet and Sugar Bones are back in the States this week for a precision strike on both coasts, playing L.A.’s The Echo tonight (4/24, tickets) and NYC’s Knitting Factory on Friday (4/26, tickets). Ahead of those shows we caught up with Confidence Man who told us about what’s currently getting them going, musically; their list includes tracks by The Prodigy, Fat White Family, Marie Davidson, Alison Limerick, and more. Listen to those songs, and read what Confidence Man have to say about them, below.

Confidence Man will also be on tour in the UK and Europe starting in May — all dates are listed below.

CONFIDENCE MAN – WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO

“Bamboo” – Harvey Sutherland

I pretty much love everything Harvey does. He’s a fellow Melbournian and is an absolute shredder. This one is a real standout. If I could tap dance, I’d do it to this song. It takes you places.

“Work It” – Marie Davidson

When I heard this song I jumped out of my seat. It’s mostly just drums and vocals but hot damn those drums and vocals are NASTY. ‘Work to be a winner’ is my favourite lyric of the year. Listen in and be put in your place.

“Where Love Lives (Come On In)” [Classic Mix] – Alison Limerick ft Frankie Knuckles, David Morales

An absolutely stank club classic brought to extra heights right here. Ref the acidy, bumbly bass rolling along underneath a chorus of well placed percussion. With some of the best breakdowns and build ups from this side of the dance-floor, it’s a guaranteed go-oer at the club. People will either be staring at the sky or staring at their shoes. Either way it’s not at you.

“Outflight” – Palms Trax

A journey of a track. I like this one for its obvious love of the 808 drum machine sounds, matched beautifully with a sparing bass loop. The real glue of this track comes from the endless cascading synth waterfall you gotta stand underneath while you’re dancing. Never a dull moment, only a great new riff followed closely by another great riff. You’re gunna get wet, so bring a brolly.

“Tastes Good With The Money” – Fat White Family

More gold from these lunatics. Dirty genius lyrics go on a date with a chugging groove and make a delightful/scary dance baby. Top that off with a cameo from our pal Baxter Dury, and you’ve got a real winner.

“Narayan” – The Prodigy

It was pretty damn sad to hear of Keith Flint’s passing recently. Got out the old CDs and was quickly reminded how fuckin fierce these guys were and how huge their influence was. Here’s a nine minute post apocalyptic rave to prove it.
