Conor Oberst releasing new LP & touring backed by Felice Bros, playing Prospect Park

Last year, Conor Oberst released his quietest album in years, the excellent Ruminations. Now he’s set to follow it with a companion album, Salutations, which comes out March 17 via Nonesuch. Ruminations was an album that he intended to record with a full band, but after tracking stripped-down versions of the songs on his own, he was encouraged to release the songs as is. Conor still ended up doing the full-band versions of every song on Ruminations, and those recordings — plus seven other new songs — make up Salutations. He recorded the album backed by The Felice Brothers (who have backed him live before) and drummer Jim Keltner. The record also features guest appearances from Jim James, Blake Mills, Maria Taylor, M Ward, Gillian Welch, Gus Seyffert, Pearl Charles, Nathaniel Walcott, and Jonathan Wilson.

Three songs from the album are out now. There’s a video for the just-released “A Little Uncanny,” which is a much more rollicking version of the song than the one on Ruminations, and an audio stream of the previously-unreleased “Napalm.” The full-band version of “Tachycardia” first came out as a Record Store Black Friday single, backed by a solo acoustic version of “Afterthought” (which wasn’t on Ruminations but will be on Salutations in full-band form). Check out all of that out below, along with the album artwork and tracklist, and a clip of Conor talking about the new album on SiriusXMU with host Jenny Eliscu.

Conor will also tour with The Felice Brothers as his backing band, and that includes a Celebrate Brooklyn show on July 20 at Prospect Park. That show will be opened by Hop Along (who are on Bright Eyes’ longtime label Saddle Creek), which is a great double bill. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday, January 27 at noon.

Conor also just began a European tour with Phoebe Bridgers last night (1/17). All dates are listed below.
