Country music legend George Jones died today in Nashville after being hospitalized due to fever and irregular blood pressure. He was 81. Jones’ long recording career began in the mid-50s and included more than a dozen #1 hits such as “White Lightning,” “She Thinks I Still Care,” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” Many of his biggest hits (“Golden Ring,” “We’re Gonna Hold On”) were with Tammy Wynette with whom he was married for six years. George lived the life he sang about and his ’70s hard-partying days earned him the nickname “No Show” Jones from the amount of gigs he never quite made it to. But his legacy lives on through his undeniable body of work. Rest in peace, George.
