Courtney-Barnett-The-Breeders

Courtney Barnett appearing on the new Breeders' LP

When Courtney Barnett released her excellent album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, just about many reviews compared its sound to ’90s alternative rock. It’s not something Barnett denies, having frequently shouted out Nirvana as an influence, having covered The Breeders’ “Cannonball” and having recorded an episode of The Talkhouse podcast with Kim Deal.

The Deal/Barnett Appreciation Society takes another step forward as Barnett and her band, who were in Ohio for a performance at Nelsonville Music Festival, dropped in on a Breeders recording session for the band’s new album, laying down some backing vocals. This will be the first new Breeders album since 2008’s Mountain Battles, and the first to feature the “classic” Last Splash lineup since the mid-’90s. All pretty exciting in its own right! Courtney says the new LP is “sounding so goooooooood.”

Barnett just played a set at Mountain Jam and will be playing Governors Ball this Sunday (6/5).
