Cult of Luna Julie Christmas

Cult of Luna & Julie Christmas list their fav songs of 2017 so far ++ win tix to tour

Cult of Luna and Julie Christmas teamed up for the awesome collaborative album Mariner last year, and this month they’ll go on a collaborative North American tour. It begins at the killer Psycho Las Vegas festival and ends in NYC, hitting Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, and Worcester in between. Since we last spoke, Dalek (who recently announced a new album and headlining tour) and Whores were added to all non-festival dates.

We’re giving away a pair of tickets to the show of your choice on the tour (not counting Psycho Las Vegas). For a chance to win, comment at the bottom of this post or tweet: “I want to see Cult of Luna & Julie Christmas at [venue of your choice] @BrooklynVegan http://bit.ly/2vM8bI5”

The NYC show happens on August 25 at Gramercy Theatre, and you can also still buy tickets for that show. All dates are listed below.

Ahead of the tour, Johannes Persson of Cult of Luna and Julie Christmas made us lists of their favorite songs of 2017 so far (Julie also provided commentary with hers). Their diverse picks range from Mutoid Man to Kendrick Lamar to Lana Del Rey to tourmates Whores. Check out their lists and listen to the songs below.

Johannes Persson of Cult of Luna – favorite songs of 2017 so far

Tusks – “Toronto”

Twinesuns – “Die Zeit Ist Da!”

Mark Lanegan – “Nocturne”

Lana del Rey – “Love”

Emptiness – “Meat Heart”

Julie Christmas – favorite songs of 2017 so far

Mutoid Man “Kiss of Death” (or any other song off War Moans)

This whole album makes me want to get out my DEVO bra, crash a party and dive into a refrigerator full of shitty beer. Even better when you know the excellent nerds involved.

Serpentwithfeet – “Blisters”

People this talented make it look easy. The song is beautiful, heartbreaking and he makes lighthearted comments about how much he’s had to deal with, a true sign of intelligence. Plus a poncho and platforms.

Kendrick Lamar – “DNA”

Smart, rough, mean, very exciting, and Kung-Fu references to boot. This is new hip-hop. Definitely watch the video (Don Cheadle!). Relying solely on gender bias and sexual insult is for the lesser grasshopper.

Junius – “March of the Samsara”

I love the use of chorus on this record. I can’t actually explain why I like this song. When I started to listen to it for the first time, I started to feel like I could breathe more deeply than I could before. And THEN he said “Breathe in…”

Whores. – “Baby Teeth”

Reminds me of the music I heard that made me start making music. All treadmill, no fishnets.
