ABC back in the day

Culture Club, Thompson Twins, ABC, Midge Ure & more new wave stars on tour

This year looks to be a good one for fans of ’80s new wave who would like to see multiple groups on tour together. So break out your skinny ties, paisley shirts, shoulder pads, hairspray, pirate jackets, etc etc.

First is the Retro Futura package tour, which this year features ABC (who put out a surprisingly good sequel to their classic 1982 debut The Lexicon of Love a couple years back), former Go-Gos frontwoman Belinda Carlisle, Modern English, onetime Kajagogo frontman (and Neverending Story themesong singer) Limahl, Annabella of Bow Bow Bow, and Tony Lewis of The Outfield. So far the only date of the tour that’s been announced is a Nassau County’st NYCB Theatre at Westbury on July 13. Tickets are on presale now (use code ENCORE).

Meanwhile, Midge Ure (Ultravox), who played previous editions of Retro Futura, will play NYC’s Highline Ballroom on June 8 with Paul Young, and tickets are on sale now. Midge has a few other North American dates lined up, and lots in Europe. All are listed below.

Last but not least is Culture Club who have toured North America a few times since reforming back in 2014. While the full Summer 2018 tour hasn’t been announced yet, there are a few dates, including Asbury Park’s Stone Pony Summer Stage on August 3 which is with Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey (tickets). They’ve got a couple other U.S. shows with Bailey and those dates are listed below.
