Cut Worms releasing series of “Soft Boiled” demos (listen), playing shows, opening for Steve Gunn at Northside
As Cut Worms, Max Clarke makes music that’s a bit out of time, sometimes haunting like The Everly Brothers, sometimes in more of a Harry Nilsson music hall fashion. (A little early surf in there as well.) None of it feels overtly affected, and Clarke has a way with melody, as well as less-is-more arrangements, and his voice is just perfect for this kind of stuff. You can check out 2015’s At Home EP, and his series of “Soft Boiled Demos” digital singles — the most recent of which is the very Nilsson-esque “Mad About You” — below.
Having moved from Chicago to NYC back in December, you may have recently seen Cut Worms open for Quilt, or Shilpa Ray, and he’s got a couple shows coming up: he’ll play Babycastles on Sunday (3/27) with Summer Twins and Goldy; and then he’ll open for Steve Gunn at Music Hall of Williamsburg on June 9 (tickets) which is part of this year’s Northside Festival.
