Cut Worms signs to Jagjaguwar, preps new EP, touring w/ Lemon Twigs and Nick Lowe
Max Clarke makes music that’s a bit out of time, somewhere between The Everly Brothers and Harry Nilsson. Having moved Cut Worms from Chicago to Brooklyn, Clarke quickly made a name for himself thanks to some great songs and a quirky solo live show that included canned laughter and applause, and he quickly became an opener of choice this year (Wolf Parade, Luna, Steve Gunn). Cut Worms, aka talented NYC-based singer-songwriter Max Clarke, has signed with Jagjaguwar who will release his debut album — partially produced by Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado — in 2018. His first release for the label, though, will be Alien Sunset, a six-song EP which collects Cut Worms’ 2016 single and a few of his “Soft Boiled” demos. We’ve got the a new video for the EP’s lovely, wistful “Like Going Down Sideways,” made from Super 8 footage which compliments the nostalgic vibe. Watch that below.
Cut Worms has gotten a lot of choice opening slots in the last year or so, and he and his band (which lately has included Jarvis Taveniere and John Andrews of Woods) will soon be on the road with a couple acts he’s played with before: The Lemon Twigs and Nick Lowe. There are no NYC shows on either of those stints, though he and The Lemon Twigs will play Asbury Park, NJ’s Stone Pony on September 29 (tickets).
Cut Worms will play a record release show at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right on November 2. Tickets for that show will be available soon. All tour dates are listed, along with cover art and tracklist for Like Going Down Sideways, below.
