Daisy Berkowitz (Marilyn Manson, Jack Off Jill), RIP

Marilyn Manson and Jack Off Jill guitarist Daisy Berkowitz (real name Scott Putesky) has passed away, following a four-year battle with colon cancer. He was 49.

Marilyn Manson confirmed the news on Instagram, writing, “Scott Putesky and I made great music together. We had our differences over the years, but I will always remember the good times more. Everyone should listen to ‘Man That You Fear’ in his honor. That was our favorite.”

Jack Off Jill also posted a tribute on Facebook, writing, “Saying good bye to Scott, friend, band mate, artist , hero.. RIP Scott – ‘always touched by your presence dear.'”

Scott played with Marilyn Manson in the late ’80s and early ’90s when they were still called Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids, and he was a full-time member on Marilyn Manson’s Trent Reznor-produced debut album Portrait of an American Family and followup EP Smells Like Children (home of Marilyn’s still-famous “Sweet Dreams” cover). He’s featured on Marilyn’s breakthrough full-length Antichrist Superstar, but left the band halfway through the recording process.

After that, Scott started his own band Three Ton Gate and joined Jack Off Jill, with whom he helped record the 1998 remix EP Covetous Creature. In the years since, he played as a member of the bands Stuck On Evil and Kill Miss Pretty.

Rest in peace, Scott. You’ll be missed.

As per Marilyn’s request, listen to “Man That You Fear” below:
