Danzig touring with Deafheaven after Riot Fest

In what sounds like a very cool multi-generational double metal bill, Danzig and Deafheaven will be playing some shows together. Those dates include San Francisco, Vegas, and Tempe, Arizona in late September.

Those shows are after Danzig play Danzig III: How The Gods Kill in full at Chicago’s Riot Fest. They play day two, the same day Queens of the Stone Age headlines, Wu-Tang Clan play Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in full, Bad Brains play a rare set with all original members and special guests, and At the Drive-In continue their reunion. Day two also has Dead Cross, whose drummer Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer) was the drummer when Danzig reunited with the Misfits at last year’s Riot Fest.

Riot Fest also has the first Jawbreaker show in 21 years, a rare Cap’n Jazz reunion set, Nine Inch Nails (whose new EP is out this week), Paramore, Dinosaur Jr (playing You’re Living All Over Me), and much more. Full lineup here. Get tickets here.

Before Riot Fest, Danzig tours the East Coast and Midwest with Corrosion of Conformity, including NJ’s Wellmont Theatre on 9/9 and Long Island’s Paramount on 9/11 (tickets). Those aren’t explicitly billed as How the Gods Kill shows, but given that Danzig is playing it in full at Riot Fest and played a lot of it at his own Blackest of the Black fest earlier this year, maybe he’ll break out some deep cuts from that album on this run.

Deafheaven don’t have any other upcoming dates at the moment. But in other Deafheaven news, their 2013 breakthrough album Sunbather landed at #94 on Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time list (which has Danzig’s debut at #23). Rolling Stone then asked Deafheaven frontman George Clarke to list his personal 10 favorite metal albums, and George picked Burzum, Morbid Angel, Pantera, Weakling, and more. Check out his list here.
