David Crosby wrapped up tour at the Cap (pics, full set video)

The legendary David Crosby recently released his new album Here If You Listen with the same band he made 2016’s great, psych-folk-leaning Lighthouse with (Becca Stevens, Michael League, Michelle Willis), only this time it was a much more collaborative process, more in the spirit of CSNY. Croz and the Lighthouse Band just wrapped up a tour supporting the album at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre on Saturday (12/8). We caught that show, where they played a mix of stuff off the new album and Lighthouse, classics like “What Are Their Names,” “Laughing,” “Guinnevere,” “Carry Me,” “Deja Vu,” “Ohio,” and the Joni Mitchell-penned “Woodstock,” and one of Becca Stevens’ songs. Pictures are in the gallery above and you can check out the full setlist below. The show also streamed live via Relix and you can watch an archive of the full thing below too.

Here’s an excerpt of Times Union‘s review of the Albany show:

The Lighthouse Band serves to accentuate Crosby’s skills. Crosby was never necessarily a band leader or frontman, so the shared vocal and writing responsibilities with the Lighthouse Band allows him to work within the collaborative environment he’s thrived in. Sonically, the music relies on the multi-part group harmonies and relatively straightforward arrangements that people have come to expect from the Croz for the past six decades.

His storytelling, self-effacing humor and banter with the band helped keep the show moving along from new track to new track, from the speculative fiction of “Vagrants of Venice” to the call for more women political leaders that is “Other Half Rule.” During the preamble to “By the Light of Common Day,” Crosby reflected on how making new music he believes in with artists he respects has him feeling rejuvenated and it’s why he’s not really interested in taking much more than a token stroll down musical memory lane.

He wasn’t exaggerating about his enthusiasm. After some impressive group harmonies on the pro-refugee anthem “Look in their Eyes,” Crosby exclaimed that it was the group’s “best-ever” rendition. After the CSN classic “Guinevere,” he gave Stevens a high five. When Willis took the lead on “Janet,” a groovy jazz tune she composed, he was all smiles and compliments.

Croz has one show currently announced for 2019: a big Red Rocks show with Jason Isbell (who performed “Wooden Ships” with Crosby at Newport Folk Fest this year).
