Davido A Good Time

Davido touring North America in 2020; Kanye & Cardi B remixes coming?

Nigerian pop artist Davido released his debut album Omo Baba Olowo back in 2012, but in the time since then, Afro-pop really started to take off in North America and the UK — thanks in part to the crossover success of Burna Boy, Beyonce’s Lion King soundtrack, and Drake adopting the sound — so that made 2019, um, a good time for Davido to finally release his second album A Good Time and it’s no surprise that the album has quickly been gaining global success. A Good Time follows collaborative singles with American rap/R&B artists like Meek Mill, Tinashe, and Rae Sremmurd/Young Thug, and the new album features some guests from that world too (Gunna, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Summer Walker, plus crossover Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan). It was also recently revealed that Kanye West sampled Davido’s “If” on a new, not-yet-released gospel song and that Cardi B has a remix of “Fall” in the works.

And though these collaborations surely help Davido gain crossover success, A Good Time doesn’t cater to American/European audiences and, as Davido puts it in a new interview with GQ, “The world is changing, people, especially younger people, are more open-minded. Ten years ago it wasn’t cool to be African, but now it’s cool, everybody accepts us.” And if the bright, upbeat songs on this album put you in a good mood, that was intentional too: “It’s an album to make you feel better. Most of the tracks are for when you’re in a happy mood, for when you want to have a good time, when you’re having a gathering – occasions like that.”

Davido is now set to take the A Good Time Tour to North America in 2020, including a NYC show on March 27 at Terminal 5 with The Compozers, Tony Mix, and a surprise guest. Tickets go on sale Friday (12/20) at 10 AM.

All dates are listed, with a stream of A Good Time, a few videos from the album, and those Kanye and Cardi B videos, below.
