Death by Audio Arcade opening 'Wonderville,' taking over Secret Project Robot space

DBA Arcade, who make weird, wonderful (and often very difficult) arcade video games, grew out of the much-missed Brooklyn DIY spot Death by Audio and have had installations at places like Elsewhere, Babycastles and more. They are now gearing up to open their own permanent arcade, event space and bar called Wonderville. The location is 1186 Broadway in Bushwick which is currently home to Secret Project Robot (who had a DBA Arcade installation in January, are giving their blessing to Wonderville and helping with the transition). Here’s more from Wonderville’s Kickstarter:

We’re not talking about retro arcade games from the 80s and 90s or just arcade versions of mobile games; these games are brand new, unique and ridiculously original experiences created by designers and artists today. Ever played games using only LED strips? Or door stops? Or juicers? At Wonderville you will!

Up to this point, these games have only shown up at festivals and short-term pop-ups as physical installations meant to be played by a group of people in a public space, and then they disappear. But no more! Wonderville will house independent games as a permanent home for these modern treasures. The space will also host tournaments, playtest nights, board games, comedy, live music and rotating art installations and exhibits.

We have an amazing opportunity to inherit one of our favorite spaces, and transform it into a new celebration of independent games and interactive art, but we need your support to make it happen. Join us, and help make this venture a reality, and you can also receive amazing Kickstarter exclusive games, art and handmade arcade cabinets from independent game developers and artists!

Wonderville’s Kickstarter is currently at around $10k towards it’s $70K goal, with 29 days left in the campaign. As for Secret Project Robot, they are still open and have events through April at least, and are planning on moving to a new space. (It won’t be their first move.) Stay tuned.
