Death Valley Girls prep new single (watch the video), touring w/ The Distillers

L.A. band Death Valley Girls are following up last year’s Darkness Rains with new single “Dream Cleaver” which throws a little new wave (and saxophone) into the group’s goth-garage-punk sound. While the title may have some thinking of Gary Wright’s mid-’70s prog pop hit, Death Valley Girls are trying to crack into their minds with some help from a noted (and departed) psychonaut. The band explain:

On our quest to consider the mysteries of the universe, and what happens after life – we became very interested in Terrence McKenna,” say the band. “Particularly his ideas on trans-dimensional travel. Mr. Mckenna proposed that “DMT sent one to a ‘parallel dimension’ and that literally enabled an individual to encounter ‘higher dimensional entities.’ We believe that these entities hold the secrets of the universe and the afterlife! We became obsessed with trying to contact them, so we don’t have to wait till the afterlife to have some answers to these questions!

We’ve got the premiere of the “Dream Cleaver” video, which plays into many of these ideas. Watch below.

Death Valley Girls were supposed to open The Distillers‘ summer tour, which was recently cancelled after Distillers drummer Andy Granelli got in a bad accident, but they’re still set to open The Distillers’ fall tour. DVG have other summer dates though, including a Brooklyn show on August 20 at Saint Vitus with Craig Brown Band, and Groupie (tickets).

After their shows with The Distillers, DVG will head out on a co-headline tour with Crocodiles. All dates are listed below.
