Depeche Mode think it's "ridiculous" to call them the official band of the alt-right (obviously)

As you may have heard, neo-nazi punching bag Richard Spencer was quoted earlier today at the CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference), saying Depeche Mode is “the official band of the alt-right.” (He was later kicked out of the conference.) New York Mag‘s Olivia Nuzzi broke the news on Twitter:

Depeche Mode, the band behind anti-racist anthem “People are People,” are, not surprisingly, very uncool with this. A rep for the band told Gothamist, “That is a pretty ridiculous claim. Depeche Mode has no ties to Richard Spencer or the alt right and does not support the alt right movement.”

Gothamist also points to a recent interview where Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan compared Donald Trump to Hitler. “The things that he’s saying sound very similar to what someone was saying in 1935,” Gahan said.
