Desert Trip (aka “Oldchella”) not returning in 2017

Last year, the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, CA (home of Coachella) hosted the inaugural Desert Trip festival, with massive classic rock acts Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters (for obvious reasons, it was unofficially nicknamed “Oldchella”). Goldenvoice’s Paul Tollett has confirmed to Billboard that the festival won’t return in 2017. He adds, “Maybe someday in the future we’ll do something similar,” but hasn’t revealed any official plans to do the festival again.

That puts to rest all the many rumors of who will play Desert Trip 2017, including a speculated Led Zeppelin reunion, a continuation of Eric Clapton’s final tour, Bruce Springsteen, and more.

2017 isn’t without its classic rock fests though. The inaugural Classic East and Classic West festivals happen in LA and NYC with Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Journey, and Earth Wind & Fire.

Meanwhile, the Empire Polo Grounds are fresh off hosting Goldenvoice’s Coachella 2017 and Stagecoach 2017. Photos from Desert Trip 2016 are in the gallery above.
