A Night of Class

Dionne Warwick shows at Beacon & Kings Theatre postponed due to racist threats

Multiple dates of “A Night of Class” concerts, featuring Dionne Warwick, Peabo Bryson, and Deniece Williams, have been postponed after promoters and staff members were threatened. Two NYC dates, Friday August 30 at Kings Theatre and Saturday August 31 at Beacon Theatre, were among those postponed, as well as a Sunday, August 25 date at Altria Theatre in Richmond, Virginia.

As a spokeperson for the Atlanta, GA Police Department told Pollstar, the event’s producer (working with We Are Live Entertainment) and staff members received text messages from an unknown number on August 23, the day the tour stopped at Atlanta’s Fox Theater. The messages were reportedly similar to each other, with “racist and homophobic messages specifically mentioning crew members by name,” Atlanta PD Public Affairs Unit director Carlos Campos said.

According to a press release, the text messages also included threats of bodily harm, and shortly after receiving them, tour transportation vehicles had their tires slashed, and sound equipment was tampered with.

A statement from the production reads, “all three concerts will be rescheduled to ensure the safety of all staff and audience members. Everyone involved greatly apologizes for the inconvenience.”
