Dolly Parton made a surprise appearance at Newport Folk Festival (watch)

Newport Folk Festival is traditionally a hotbed of surprise guest appearances and one-off collaborations, and its 2019 edition is shaping up to be no different. Saturday night (7/27) at the festival was closed out by an act billed only as “♀♀♀♀: THE COLLABORATION,” which wound up being a big collaborative set featuring many of the weekend’s female performers, including Brandi Carlile, Sheryl Crow, Lucy Dacus, Jade Bird, country supergroup The Highwomen, Linda Perry, Judy Collins, Yola… and Dolly Parton, who made a surprise appearance to sing on “Jolene” and “9 to 5,” and duet with Brandi on “I Will Always Love You.” Check out pictures, video, and tweets from the performance (including a tweet from Dolly herself) below.

Newport Folk Festival wraps up on Sunday (7/28) in Newport, RI, and if you aren’t there, audio from some sets is livestreaming.
