Domenico Lancellotti pays tribute to Maya Deren in "Terre" video from new LP

Brazilian artist and onetime +2 member Domenico Lancellotti, who has worked with the likes of Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and more over the years, has just released The Good is a Big God, his first LP for Luaka Bop. It’s a lovely collection of modern, understated samba pop that nods to America’s West Coast and ’60s Italian soundtracks. The album features contributions from Kassin, Nina Miranda, Moreno Veloso, Pedro Sá and, perhaps most crucially, The High Llamas’ Sean O’Hagan who co-produced, contributed his distinctive string arrangements and wrote English lyrics to “Logo.” (If you like The High Llamas, you will like this album.) It’s a beautiful, sun-dappled LP and you can stream the whole thing below.

We’ve got the premiere of the video for the album’s spare, gorgeous, harp-laden track, “Terra.” Shot on Super-8, it is a collaborative effort between between Lancellotti, Bruno Di Lullo, Gustavo Estupefato, and Quito Ribeiro, and stars dancer Lara Fuki Mena Barreto. It’s an homage to iconic avant-garde filmmaker Maya Deren and NSFW (in an avant-garde Super-8 kind of way), but you can watch below.
