Drake and Jay-Z & Beyonce announce CDs (but you can't buy them at Best Buy)

June was an insane month for major hip hop releases, and today, CD releases were announced for two of those: Beyonce & Jay-Z‘s Everything Is Love and Drake‘s Scorpion (which were previously only available digitally and on streaming services). Bey & Jay drops this Friday (7/6) and Drake drops the following Friday (7/13). Listings for both are up on Amazon now (click the links), and you will presumably be able to buy them at most other places that sell CDs.

One place you will not be able to buy them, though, is Best Buy, which officially stopped selling CDs as of yesterday (7/1). Billboard initially broke the news back in February, and CBS Pittsburgh confirmed yesterday that the electronics chain followed through on its promise. This follows an 18.5% drop in CD sales last year. Best Buy will continue to carry vinyl for the next two years though. In 2017, vinyl sales rose by 9% from the previous year, from 13.1 million to 14.32 million.

No word yet on vinyl releases for the Beyonce & Jay-Z and Drake albums.

Target also reportedly demanded to music suppliers that it wants to sell CDs on consignment.
