Dream Ritual releasing 'Trips Around the Sun' this week (stream it)
Dream Ritual caught our attention back in 2014 with their self-titled debut EP on 6131, which saw them channelling the grunge/post-hardcore/shoegaze blend of bands like Balance & Composure and Superheaven, and since then they’ve gone in a more overtly psychedelic direction. 2017’s three-song Summer Promo saw them bringing in trippy wah-pedal solos and sunshine pop harmonies, and last year they covered Jefferson Airplane. Now they’re back with their most expansive release yet, the eight-song Trips Around the Sun EP, and it sees them navigating a middle ground between their grungy post-hardcore roots and their recent excursions into psychedelia. You don’t hear these two types of music being brought together very often, but Dream Ritual proves that there’s no reason you can’t mix fist-raising, screamalong choruses with mind-bending jams. To paraphrase The Flaming Lips, finally the emo revival bands are taking acid.
The EP was recorded by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Trapped Under Ice, Pissed Jeans, etc), and it officially drops this Friday but we’re premiering a full stream below. If you like what you hear, you can pre-order it. Tour dates are listed below too.
