Duster announce Numero Group box set, share previously unreleased song

Duster at Baby's All Right
Duster at Baby’s All Right in December (more by P Squared)

Highly influential indie vets Duster finally returned and played their first show in 18 years with (Sandy) Alex G and Girlpool’s Harmony Tividad (two acts they influenced) in Brooklyn in December, followed by two headlining Brooklyn shows. They’ve been teasing new music and Numero Group reissues, and while the new music is still TBA, the Numero Group reissues have now been announced and the previously unreleased song “What You’re Doing To Me” has been released. It’s a cool, atmospheric, sorta-psychedelic indie rock song that fits in perfectly with the rest of their previously-released discography, and does a good job of reminding you how much Duster’s influence is still felt today. Listen below.

The song will appear on the new box set Capsule Losing Contact, a 4xLP or 3xCD set that includes the band’s two full-length albums (1998’s Stratosphere and 2000’s Contemporary Movement), plus 1999’s 1975 EP, singles, demos, and five other previously unreleased songs. The description reads:

Mastered from a mix of crusty cassettes, decaying DATs, and warbly analog tape,
Capsule Losing Contact is housed in a rusted slipcase with all four albums secured in heavy weight tip-on jackets. An accompanying lyric book guides the listener through Duster’s lo-fi worldview, adorned with the last gasps of an expired golden age as captured on Polaroid and disposable Kodak cameras.

The box set comes out March 22 via Numero Group. More info and pre-order here. New song, trailer video, artwork, and full tracklist below.

Duster’s reunion tour continues with West Coast shows this month, and those dates are listed below too.
