Elder releasing 'Reflections of a Floating World' (stream a track)

Elder

Elder‘s Lore was one of my favorite metal albums of 2015, so I’m very excited to learn that they’re giving it a followup this year. Their fourth album, Reflections of a Floating World, is out on June 2 via Stickman Records (EU) and Armageddon Label (US), and lead single “The Falling Veil” is out now.

Lore was more of a proggy hard rock album than a metal album, and the 11-minute “The Falling Veil” heads even further away from what you’d traditionally consider metal. Sorta like parts of the new Pallbearer album, this is arguably just a prog song and not a metal song at all. If you dig lengthy trips of ’70s guitar heroics, you need to give this a listen. Check it out at Stereogum.

Elder have a bunch of European dates this summer, and they play Baltimore’s awesome Days of Darkness festival in October. That fest has at least one legendary band that Elder probably take cues from, Captain Beyond.

UPDATE (5/16): Elder added North American tour dates with King Buffalo, including Brooklyn’s Saint Vitus on October 11 (tickets). All dates are listed below.
