With riffs and bravado fighting for attention, Detroit’s Electric Six have always had tongue firmly in cheek, back to the days of “Danger! High Voltage!” when they claimed they invented the night. So the chance to see them on a boat may have been the ultimate E6 experience. They did just that, playing aboard the Rocks Off Concert Cruise on August 19. (They also played WFMU Monty in New Jersey on 8/20). Electric Six played two sets that hit most of their early ’00s favorites — “Danger! High Voltage!,” “Gay Bar,” “Dance Commander” — along with tracks from the rest of their catalog, as well as covers of David Bowie’s “Cat People” and the Phil Collins and Philip Bailey’s yachty “Easy Lover.” Frontman Dick Valentine looked the part, decked out in a Skipper’s hat. Setlist is below and pictures from the cruise are in the gallery above.

Electric Six will be back in NYC on their fall tour, playing The Studio at Webster Hall on September 30 with In the Whale. Tickets for that show are on sale now and all dates are listed below.
