Elizabeth Colour Wheel releasing debut LP 'Nocebo' (stream "23")
Boston’s Elizabeth Colour Wheel are named after the 1992 song by shoegaze vets Lilys, and while there is some shoegaze in their sound, it’s not really easy to pin them down to any genre. They’ve also got elements of goth, punk, black metal, doom, slowcore, noise, and more, and singer Lane Shi’s voice is soaring and unique and sounds like it could front a ’90s alt-rock band but never sounds like any one band in particular (though maybe Portishead would be a close comparison). Following a run of EPs, Elizabeth Colour Wheel are releasing their first full-length, Nocebo, on March 15 via The Flenser (pre-order), and we’re premiering lead single “23.” It’s over six minutes long, treks through a handful of different sounds, and really gives you a good idea of what to expect from this band. Listen below.
Elizabeth Colour Wheel are also touring, beginning in Brooklyn with the Flenser showcase at Brooklyn Bazaar on March 16 with Have A Nice Life (who also have a new album coming), Planning for Burial, Wreck and Reference, and Consumer (tickets). They’re hitting Montclair, NJ’s Meatlocker (3/17) the day after that, and have a handful of other dates through late March. All dates are listed below.
Update: A second Brooklyn show will be announced this week.
