Elsewhere turns 1 — relive year one in pics ++ win tickets to 12 shows
Though they didn’t have their own room for a few years, Brooklyn concert promotion company PopGun never gave up after their beloved Williamsburg venue Glasslands Gallery closed its door at the end of 2014. They went to work immediately on something new and bigger, and on Halloween 2017, Elsewhere made its debut. Their new multi-room Bushwick venue immediately became an essential part of the NYC music scene with week after week of great concert and dance party bookings. It helps that the space is fun to be at — a mix of an old NY feel with completely modern amenities, multiple places to hang out inside and outside, great sound and great lighting. Less than a year old, Elsewhere was chosen as the location where Mayor Bill de Blasio historically signed the bill repealing the NYC cabaret law.
In its first year, Elsewhere has hosted shows by so many artists including Deerhunter, Mitski, Sophie, Jon Hopkins, Television, Charli XCX, Chvrches, Battles, Hollie Cook, Yaeji, Kelly Lee Owens, John Maus (on Valentine’s Day), Pussy Riot, The Charlatans, BEAK>, serpentwithfeet, JEFF the Brotherhood, The Voidz, Dilly Dally, Shopping, Priests, The Sea & Cake, Power Trip, Sheer Mag, Princess Nokia, Young Fathers, Ho99o9, Russian Circles, King Woman, The Gories, CupcakKe, The Spook School, Rainer Maria, The Van Pelt, HEEMS, Cakes Da Killa, Combo Chimbita, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and many more. We hosted our BrooklynVegan Northside Party there with co-headlining sets by Protomartyr & Deerhoof, and a bunch of other bands across The Hall and Zone stages. Nightlife legend Susanne Bartsch throws a party called Kunst there, and Elsewhere is the new home of fetish party BOUND.
Their rooftop opened in May (DJs included), and just last week the second location of Mission Chinese opened in in the adjacent street level space. Meanwhile, The Loft (which was the first part of Elsewhere to open) is getting a facelift, and its own DJ booth.
In celebration of their first birthday (Happy Birthday, Elsewhere!), we put together a gallery of photos from the year. You can check it out above. We’re also giving away a bunch of tickets. Check out the list of shows below, and head to Ticketfly to see all the shows they have on sale.
UPDATE: In addition to the show with Wavves and Beach Fossils on Halloween, you can also RSVP for free entrance to a show in The Loft with Muévete Jevi w/ Nasty Nigel, Topshelf Tyson, and Pariguayo.
