Enslaved playing 2-night anniversary shows/seminars at Gramercy Theatre

Enslaved

Norwegian prog/black metal greats Enslaved are in the midst of celebrating their 25th anniversary these days, having just done so at Hellfest and in London. Now, as part of that celebration, they’re coming to NYC for two days of shows and Enslaved-related (not to mention Norway-related) stuff at Scandinavia House on December 9 and Gramercy Theatre on December 10.

The event is called “New York By Norse,” and night 1 includes a performance from Enslaved’s Ivar Bjornsen, performing as his dark ambient project BARDSPEC with accompaniment from Kevin Hufnagel (Dysrhythmia, Gorguts, Vaura, etc). That night also includes a workshop from Wardruna‘s Einar Selvig, where he will talk about “Norwegian historical music, runes, Wardruna’s ongoing Runaljod trilogy,” and other stuff, as well as giving an acoustic performance.

Night 2 brings the big guns, as Enslaved will play two sets, one focused on early material and one on more recent stuff. That night will also feature a performance from Einar and Ivar’s collaborative project Skuggsjá, as well as art from Norwegian artist Kim Holm and a panel focusing on Enslaved’s history. All in all, sounds like a pretty educational couple of days as far as metal shows go. Tickets for that go on LiveNation presale Thursday (6/23) at 10 AM and on sale to the general public Friday (6/24) at noon.

UPDATE: There will also be a signing at Rough Trade on December 11

We are very proud to announce that well-known Williamsburg record store Rough Trade NYC will host an Enslaved LP signing session on Sunday December 11th, as a part of the New York By Norse event – presented together with Noisey!

This all-ages Rough Trade event will open at 1pm; entry is automatic with the LP purchase of Enslaved’s recent “The Sleeping Gods – Thorn” reissue! Rough Trade NYC’s event arrives the day after Enslaved will play “Enslaved 25” – two different sets, one featuring old classics and another comprised of newer songs, to a nearly sold-out crowd at the Gramercy Theatre.

Speaking of metal shows at Gramercy, Marduk also has a show coming up there and it’s one of the shows eligible for those free Ticketmaster vouchers.

Enslaved also have a bunch of European dates coming up. Those are listed, along with recent songs from Enslaved and Wardruna, below.
