Erik Blood (ex The Turn-ons) released gorgeously shoegazy new LP featuring members of Shabazz Palaces & more

Erik Blood these days is best known as a producer, having long worked with Shabazz Palaces and THEESatisfaction, and recently twiddled knobs for Tacocat‘s new album. He makes music himself, too, however, as part of ’00s-era Seattle shoegazers The Turn-Ons, and releasing a string of excellent, atmospheric solo albums. His latest, Lost in Slow Motion, is out today via Homeskillet Records and features contributions from Palaceer Lazaro (Shabazz Palaces), Paul Gonzenbach (The Jim Yoshii Pile-Up) and hip hop artist/producer OCnotes. This is a little different for Blood, more ambient and ethereal than his records usually are, in a way that recalls peak 4AD — specifically Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, and Dead Can Dance — but in a very modern way. There are some transcendent moments, specifically the gorgeous “Ostrich” and the album-closing “Out of This Way” featuring OCnotes.
