Maine music fest KahBang Fest cancels all music (St. Vincent included)

Strangely, the KahBang Music Art & Film Festival, which happens August 7-10, sent out press releases in mid-July announcing the fest was moving from Bangor to Portland (Maine, not Oregon as we original put, whoops). Maybe not surprisingly then, they’ve now announced just one week before the fest that all music is cancelled this year. The lineup wasn’t actually huge, but it did include shows by St. Vincent, DMX, Wheatus and many more.

Read the letter they sent out, in full below…

Dear Fans,

The KahBang Film Festival screenings and FREE art exhibits will proceed as planned this year, but we are extremely saddened to announce that the Music Festival is not able to go forward in 2014, and with a heavy heart we must cancel our scheduled music performances. The community in Portland has been great and welcomed us with open arms but several setbacks in our planning the last few weeks, including the loss of some major sponsors, has made it very difficult for us to stage our music events. We are sorry to our fans for letting them down, but we just don’t have the ability to maintain our vision for the event for this year.

Our entire organization is staffed with volunteers. Many of us have been involved from KAHBANG inception. This festival is our passion and our inspiration, our life for 365 days a year. No one is more saddened and apologetic at this development than we are. While we made every effort to find alternative solutions, ultimately the setbacks proved insurmountable.

The Film Festival screenings will continue as planned in Portland at One Longfellow Square from August 7-10, and FREE art displays will continue to be held throughout the weekend at CTN. Many of our “showcasing” music artists will still be performing independently at venues throughout downtown Portland – and that information will be on our schedule page once it is available. Those events will be FREE or separately ticketed by the venue.

We are still working through many details, and we understand that this will undoubtedly cause inconveniences and frustration for many festival-goers. Questions can be directed at:

where we will be working as best we can to get people information and answers. Those who bought tickets online through Ticketmaster can contact them directly for a refund.

Thanks to all our fans and supporting organizations that have continued to support us

Our mission has been about artist discovery and support. In our actions and in our hearts we have tried to fulfill that mission year after year. Emerging artists need a place to be seen, heard and experienced so that they can connect with new audiences and grow. Fans seeking out new music need sources to help them discover their next favorite performer, filmmaker or style. All of us here will continue to work on furthering that mission in various forms and we hope to see you again in the future.
