Fabolous given the Key to Brooklyn (and becoming part of Botanic Gardens' Celebrity Path)

Fabolous already had the “Keys to the Street” in his recent single with Trey Songz. But now the rapper’s got the keys and the streets. Literally. At an IconTalks event on March 9, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams awarded Fabolous the Key of Brooklyn, and announced a street would be named after him too later this year.

UPDATE (3/20): It’ turns out he’s NOT getting a street named after him. Instead, Fabolous will be part of the Brooklyn Celebrity Path on the grounds of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, where a marker bearing Fabolous’ name will be installed. The induction ceremony happens June 11.

The event also marked marked the 20th anniversary of the death of Biggie Smalls. and Swizz Beatz, Wale, DJ Clue, Ryan Leslie and Doug E. Fresh were all also in attendance. Fabolous talked about the event a bit on Instagram: “1 question that stumped me was ‘What’s the best piece of advice I’ve ever received?’ And of course people have told me things in advice form, but from being very observant, I get my best advice from what people do, not always from what people say. Don’t know if I said that the way I wanted to on stage that night.” Check out a few other Instagrams from the event, below.

Fabolous’ street will not be the only roadway named after a rapper in NYC. 205th Street and Hollis Avenue in Queens was co-named “Run-DMC/Jam Master Jay Way,” and a portion of Linden Boulevard at 192nd Street is now known as “Malik ‘Phife Dawg’ Taylor Way.”
