Finn Wolfhard’s band Calpurnia brought screaming fans to Rough Trade

Finn Wolfhard (aka Mike in Stranger Things and Richie Tozier in It) is a noted fan of indie rock – he’s starred in two PUP videos and performed on stage with Mac DeMarco. He also has a band of his own, Calpurnia, who you may have seen in videos, performing covers of Pixies, New Order, Weezer, Twin Peaks, and Mac DeMarco. Calpurnia signed to Royal Mountain Records (Alvvays, Mac DeMarco, METZ) and have been recording their debut EP with Cadien Lake James of Twin Peaks. Ahead of the EP’s release, the band announced a one off, 40 minute Brooklyn show at Rough Trade that quickly sold out.

For their debut NYC show, Calpurnia attracted a crowd full of Finn fans, some of whom started waiting in line as early as 9 AM. Their screams were deafening from the moment doors opened, leading Finn to comment between songs, “I want to thank the moms who brought all these girls here.” The band played some original material and a handful of covers, including Weezer’s “El Scorcho,” Twin Peaks’ “Butterfly,” Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind,” and The Velvet Underground’s “Here She Comes Now.” Pictures from the Rough Trade show are in the gallery above, and some video clips are below, piercing screaming included.
