Fire at Union Hall on Friday night; no one hurt, but closed till further notice

UPDATE: pictures from inside Union Hall, and updates on upcoming shows, here.

A fire broke out at Park Slope bar/venue Union Hall shorty before midnight on Friday night (3/24). Everyone got out unharmed and the fire was contained by the FDNY quickly. SAVAK were headlining Friday night, along with Lake Ruth, and alarms went off as they were finishing their last song.

There was major damage to the venue, however, “Place is wrecked,” said Hewson Chen of Lake Ruth, in reference to the upstairs part of the venue. The downstairs, where bands play, was less affected, and the bands recovered their gear a few hours later. (“A few wet amps,” said Greg Vegas who played saxophone with SAVAK that night.)  Union Hall is assessing the damage and will be closed “in the short term” and hope to reopen “as quickly as possible.”

A few more photos from last night, including one of SAVAK right before the fire broke out, are below.
