Fire Is Motion is the NJ indie rock band led by Adrian Amador, whose five song Still, I Try EP is one of 2017’s hidden gems. They’re still a relatively new and small band, but they have the kind of talent and ambition that should hopefully change that very soon. Across these five songs, Adrian and his collaborators deliver gorgeous vocal harmonies, soaring trumpets, and intricate chamber pop arrangements. It falls somewhere between classic Neutral Milk Hotel/Arcade Fire/Broken Social Scene style indie and newer bands like Foxing, TWIABP, and Mutual Benefit. It’s not that you’ve never heard anything like this before, but Fire Is Motion really is a cut above the rest. You can and should stream the EP below.

Fire Is Motion were supposed to open Pinegrove’s inaugural holiday show in NJ, but that show was cancelled, and Fire Is Motion have now added plenty of other chances to see them. They’re playing a Philly show with Adult Mom and Petal the Friday between Christmas and New Year’s, and going on a tour in January.

The tour begins in NYC on January 17 at Trans-Pecos with Weller, The Human Fly and Noods (tickets). There’s also a New Brunswick, NJ show and a Long Island show. All dates are listed below.
