For those who don’t want to go to the West Side of Manhattan or New Jersey to see Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks extravaganza on the Fourth of July, there is a Brooklyn option: Coney Island. Fireworks will be going on as part of an Independence Day celebration held at MCU Park (where the Cyclones play). That includes cover bands, a “beers of New York” beer garden and a performance from the Brooklyn String Orchestra who will play at 9 PM with the sky lighting up at 9:30 PM. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted and will go benefit the Brooklyn Public Library and Hurricane Sandy relief charity, #ConeyRecovers. 4:30 PM start.
You can see fireworks at Coney Island a lot this summer. They’ll go off every Friday through August 30 at 9:30 PM. Additionally, there will be fireworks after certain Brooklyn Cyclones games, all of which are themed to music. That includes tonight, which, appropriately, are set to Patriotic works and will go off right after the game finishes (they play the Staten Island Yankees). That makes three nights in a row of Coney Island Fireworks, starting tonight.
The rest of the Cyclones’ fireworks shows are all Saturdays, dates (and themes) as follows:
Saturday, July 20 (vs. Batavia Muckdogs) – Springsteen Fireworks
Saturday, Aug 10 (vs. State College Spikes) – Billy Joel Fireworks
Saturday, August 17 (vs. Vermont Lake Monsters) – Disney Fireworks
Saturday, August 31 (vs. Aberdeen IronBirds) – Beatles Fireworks
Like tonight’s, those fireworks go off right after the game finishes.
For more Coney Island fun, dont’ forget about Marty Markowitz’s free Seaside Summer Concert Series which starts next Friday (7/12) with Cheap Trick.
And while on the subject of Coney Island, you’ve already seen one set of pictures from the 2013 Mermaid Parade which happened on June 22. Another set from the barely-dressed festivities are in this post.
