Flight of the Conchords working on new HBO special

Flight of the Conchords, aka Jemaine Clement and Brett McKenzie, will have a new HBO special out this year. Details are scant but Clement, who was part of a Legion panel at the 2018 Television Critics Association press tour, mentioned it would be happening, along with a UK FotC tour. “We’re going to film a little something this year. We’re going to shoot an hour thing,” Clement told ET, and then told Indiewire, “We’ve done some of it before, some of it will be new. Some of it we’ll be working on in the next few months.” This will be the first new TV anything from Flight of the Conchords since the second season of their great HBO series ended in 2009. Stay tuned.

Flight of the Conchords toured North America in 2016. All upcoming tour dates are listed below.

In other news, Legion will return for its second season in April on FX. The series, which is based on the X-Men related Marvel comic, was created by Noah Hawley (Fargo) and is unlike just about any other show on TV right now, superhero or otherwise. (Certainly the only one to have Pink Floyd references running through it.) Clement’s character, who sings his way through the final moments of Season 1, looks to have an even bigger role in Season 2. If you haven’t checked it out, it’s great and is streamable via Hulu and available to rent on most digital platforms.

Clement will be very busy this year. In addition to that stuff mentioned above, he’s also working two different television spinoffs of What We Do in the Shadows, the vampire mockumentary he co-wrote and directed with Taika Waititi (who went on to make the very funny Thor: Ragrarock). The first, Wellington Paranormal, is for New Zealand television, features both Clement and Waititi and will air later this year. The second, which Clement won’t star in, is more of an American remake, and they’re hoping to shoot the pilot soon.
