Flying Lotus wrote the soundtrack for 'Blade Runner 2022,' expands tour

Flying Lotus has written the soundtrack for a new anime Blade Runner short film, Blade Runner 2022, which was written and directed by Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo). You can watch it now at Crunchyroll and see the trailer below. The film is a prequel to the upcoming Blade Runner 2049, which was directed by Denis Villeneuve and stars Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling, and hits theaters on October 6.

FlyLo has also expanded his 3D live tour, adding a second NYC show for November 7 at Brooklyn Steel. Tickets for the newly-added show go on sale Friday (9/29) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (9/27) at noon. His 11/6 show at that same venue is sold out.

FlyLo also opens the two LA stops of Solange’s short tour, which have Earl Sweatshirt and Chassol on the bill too. Updated FlyLo dates are listed below.

In related news, Johann Johansson — who scored both Villeneuve’s Sicario and Arrival — was originally tapped as composer on Blade Runner 2049 but his work was recently replaced by a new score by Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch. Meanwhile, Run the Jewels’ El-P had been contacted by the films producers to pitch a score as well, but he revealed that his work was “rejected (or ignored)” but added it was an honor to be asked.
