Foo Fighters announce stadium tour, playing Citi Field (and don’t tell Dave Grohl, but Extreme is playing Long Island)

Foo Fighters in Chicago in October (more by James Richards IV)
Foos

Foo Fighters put out their stadium rock album, Sonic Highways, earlier this month, and now they’ve announced a tour where they’ll appropriately be playing stadiums. Following a NJ show at Susquehanna Bank Center (7/6), the Foos will hit NYC on July 16 at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. In order to “beat the bots” (aka scalper bots), there will be a box office-only presale for most dates starting Saturday (11/22) at 10 AM local time. You can visit the band’s website for the complete list of box office locations. You’ll just have to camp out for tickets like people did in the ol’ days.

The NY and NJ shows, and other dates, are with the UK-loved rockers Royal Blood, but on a much cooler note, several other dates are with Mission of Burma (sometimes we need a reminder that Grohl actually does come from an amazing punk background). Their sold-out Chicago gig is also stacked with cool openers: Cheap Trick, Naked Raygun and Urge Overkill. All dates are listed below.

Speaking of Grohl’s amazing punk background, anyone remember that Nirvana interview where they’re talking about playing at the same festival as Extreme, and when Krist Novoselic says “I’m not even really sure if they’re aware that things can actually operate on a different level” regarding their way of musical life vs Nirvana’s, Dave interrupts and says “I don’t think they’re aware of how much they SUCK!” Would the Dave Grohl of today, who says Lorde represents the Nirvana aesthetic, ever diss a mainstream rock band in a public interview like that?

Meanwhile, Extreme celebrate the 25th anniversary of their album Pornograffiti at a Long Island show on January 24. Tickets go on sale Friday (11/21) if you’re into that sort of thing. We’re pretty sure we’re doing laundry that day.

Watch that Nirvana interview, with the list of Foo Fighters dates, below…
