UPDATE: Aretha sadly passed away at the age of 76. Tributes from fellow musicians have been pouring in.

With the Queen of Soul currently seriously ill and under hospice care, some fan (fans?) took it upon themselves to turn the Franklin St. subway station in Tribeca into an Aretha Franklin tribute, with pasted lyrics and song titles on stairsteps and signage. It may not be official like Bowie, but it was clearly done with love and respect. Let’s hope the MTA lets it stay up. You can check out a few photos in this post and Bowery Boogie has more.

An Aretha tribute concert is happening at NYC’s Madison Square Garden in November, details are still TBA.
