Franz Ferdinand played Warsaw with Omni and Wanna (pics, setlist)
Franz Ferdinand followed up Sunday’s Governors Ball performance with a slightly more intimate GovBall After Dark show at Greenpoint club Warsaw (a stone’s thrown from where singer Alex Kapronos lived in the mid-’90s). The stage may have been smaller but Kapranos was definitely still in Festival Mode, vamping it up and egging the crowd on. Warsaw ate it up too, as this new, five-member lineup of the band tore through a set that — with no new album to plug — was packed with favorites. The night opened with “Jaqueline,” finished with “This Fire,” and featured about half of their debut album. Nick McCarthy’s presence was definitely missed, he was such an intrinsic part of the band, but the two new members sounded great. Check out the setlist below.
The undercard was Atlanta’s Omni who definitely draw from a similar set of influences as Franz Ferdinand. FF drummer Paul Thomson joined them on a second kit for the last song of the night. Most of their set came from last year’s Deluxe, but they did play one new one that’s pulled from their sophomore LP, due out later this year. Opening the night were NYC’s own Wanna who played synth-heavy rock. Pictures from the whole night are in the gallery above.
