Friendship releasing album on Advance Base's label, playing NYC with him

Philly-via-Maine indie band Friendship have been around for a few years, but members Dan Wriggins, Michael Cormier, and Peter Gill have been playing together for even longer than that. “We all grew up in the same town outside of Portland, called Yarmouth, so we’ve always played music together,” Michael told The Key in 2015. “We’ve worked on Pete’s stuff, we’ve worked on my stuff, we’ve worked on Dan’s stuff, and now it’s like fused together.”

2015 was the year they released their debut album, You’re Going to Have to Trust Me (on Burst & Bloom Records), and they’re now signed to Advance Base leader Owen Ashworth’s Orindal Records, which will release their sophomore album Shock Out of Season on November 3 (pre-order). We’re premiering a new song off that album, “Skip To The Good Part,” which is quiet, humble-yet-deep indie pop that should appeal to fans of Advance Base, Advance Base’s upcoming tourmates Pedro the Lion, or maybe Majical Cloudz. Here’s what Dan Wriggins tells us about the new song:

I found Anne Sexton’s New York Times obituary, clipped from the Sunday paper, October 6th, 1974, in a used copy of her book, “Live or Die.” The song is based on this obituary, and on the book’s final poem, “Live.” It also includes lines inspired by Michelle Blades’ and Neil Young’s stage banter, James Agee’s “Permit Me Voyage,” Ray Price’s “There Stands the Glass,” Job 14:1, and some things my mom used to say. It’s the only song on the record that Evangeline played flute on, and the only one that includes a recorded sample (a tea kettle from Pete’s apartment).

Friendship also have a November tour, including a Harrisburg, PA show with Abi Reimold (who took the above photo) and a NYC show with Advance Base and Sound of Ceres (ex-Candy Claws) on November 19 at Silent Barn (tickets). All dates are listed below.
