Future Islands offshoot The Snails played Baby's All Right (pics, setlist), play Mercury Lounge tonight

You have to admire The Snails‘ commitment to the concept. The band, which features Future Islands’ Samuel T. Herring and bassist/guitarist William Cashion, played their first of two small NYC shows Wednesday night (3/9) at Baby’s All Right and hit the stage decked out in antennae, new wave sunglasses, and shells. The Snails were celebrating the release of their album, Songs from the Shoebox, and if you haven’t checked it out, you can stream it below. While deep undercover in cute mollusk garb, Herring’s voice and dance moves are unmistakable, and he kept the outfit on even though he was dripping with sweat by halfway through. Those snail shells were actually bags full of balloons which bounced into the audience, adding the the already fun vibe of the night.
Oh Hang, Showbiz and Benny Boeldt opened the night and pictures from their sets are below. The Snails play Mercury Lounge tonight (3/10), which is sold out, and their tour will continue down the East Coast. More pics from Baby’s, including one of The Snails’ setlist, are below.
