Galley Beggar releasing an LP on Rise Above (stream a track)

Galley Beggar

London’s Galley Beggar refer to themselves simply as folk rock, which is accurate, but it doesn’t necessarily imply that Galley Beggar are haunting enough to have landed themselves a deal with psych-metal label Rise Above Records. Rise Above is putting out their new album, Silence & Tears, on May 19 in the US and May 25 in the UK (pre-order), and its single “Empty Sky” premieres in this post. It hearkens back to their country’s folk rock of the late ’60s and early ’70s, when bands like Fairport Convention were in their prime. That makes it even less surprising that they’re on a label with a bunch of bands who sound like Black Sabbath, who you could have seen on a bill with Fairport Convention back then. Listen to “Empty Sky” below.
