Gang Gang Dance played a rooftop (pics) and Baby's All Right w/ Alexis Taylor

It’s been five years, but experimental, arty collective Gang Gang Dance are back, having played two NYC shows this past weekend. The first was a rooftop show on Friday (9/22) at Hauser & Wirth New York in Chelsea which offered lovely sunset views, though the band went on after dark. Pictures from that are in the gallery above. The second was Sunday night (9/24) at Baby’s All Right where they played with old friend Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip, and Deerhunter drummer Moses Archuleta. GGD’s set at the Baby’s show got off to a late start but once things got rolling, the band — which at these shows at least included Williamsburg fixture and sometimes GGD collaborator Ryan Sawyer on drums — getting right back into the groove. It was a packed house and the crowd was clearly glad to have them back. (A pic of the Baby’s All Right Setlist is below.) Lizzi Bougatsos, Brian Degraw or the rest of the band didn’t do much talking, but word is a new record is on the way.

Alexis Taylor (who played the NY Art Book Fair on Friday) played a nice solo set right before GGD, which included Hot Chip’s “White Wine and Fried Chicken” and “Interleave,” his collaboration with Win Win, plus songs from 2016’s Piano. Moses Archuleta, who had played with Deerhunter at Forest Hills Stadium the night before, played a set of ambient-leaning house-y instrumentals. A few instagrams of that, and videos of Gang Gang Dance, are below.
