Girls Just Wanna Weekend brings Brandi Carlile, Margo Price, Lucius & more to Mexico

Brandi Carlile is throwing an all-inclusive concert vacation experience in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico. Girls Just Wanna Weekend brings four nights of music to the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, featuring sets from modern-day alt-country great Margo Price, long-running singer-songwriter (and Robert Plant and Emmylou Harris collaborator, and more) Patty Griffin, soul/folk singer (and member of Jack White’s band all-female band The Peacocks) Ruby Amanfu, harmony-laden pop group and Roger Waters collaborators Lucius (who we just caught at Newport Folk Festival), Maren Morris, The Secret Sisters, Indigo Girls, KT Tunstall, and three performances from Brandi herself. By day, Girls Just Wanna Weekend includes curated activities, excursions and other offerings – the resort is near Tulum, Akumal, beaches, cenotes, and several historic Mayan ruins.

In a letter, Brandi says:

Mainstream festivals in the US habitually exclude women as headline artists equal to men. I was brought up by Lilith Fair to believe that men and women enjoy live music equally and that women can not only headline a festival – they can BE a festival. I’m proud to announce that our festival has an ALL female fronted lineup.

This means a lot to our band we’re gonna make sure you never forget it! My sister Tiffany is gonna teach the morning yoga class, we’re gonna have a sandcastle party for the kids (and childish adults) and my personal favorite will be the grand finale “Ladies of the 80s” where we will close down the party with a set full of our favorite femme fatale power ballads from the 80’s sung by me and the rest of the women in the lineup…there will be fingerless gloves and there will be eyeshadow….all of the eyeshadow! Don’t forget your leg warmers.

Public onsale for Girls Just Wanna Weekend is happening now. Get more information about pricing and suites, payment plans, and more on girlsjustwannaweekend.com, and watch a video about the vacation experience below.

Brandi Carlile released a new album called By The Way, I Forgive You this year (watch her perform the album’s best song at the end of this post), and also appears on John Prine’s newest album, The Tree of Forgiveness. She and Prine performed another song from that album together on Colbert (where they were also joined by Sturgill Simpson). They also both performed at this year’s Newport Folk Festival – Brandi was on the lineup, and Prine made a special guest appearance during Margo Price’s set. Much like what will happen in Mexico, collaborations happened every day at Newport. Throughout the festival’s three days, Brandi performed with Margo Price, Lucius, Bedouine, Nicole Atkins, Maggie Rogers, Mumford & Sons, and during Sunday’s big finale led by Jon Batiste. Watch video of Brandi joining Margo Price for a cover of Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” and the other videos, below…
